Description

...or as seated as harlequins are wont to get

This was decently fun for me to draw up, considering that he's partially based off the Weyerbacher Jester, what with the fluffy hat and big bells.

Done all in one pencil with liberal use of various eraser sticks, as is the norm with me

I have to say this is not one of your strongest pieces and I can see that this looks like an experimental piece, in which I can see you have worked hard on and have done well. I like that you have tried, since this is a difficult position and again, like with most of your pieces, it suits his character, a jester. I would imagine they would never sit still, due to their nature.

The first thing I notice is that his arms look thin and a little bit too long, especially his left arm, which is also lacking muscle in the upper-arm. If you think of this character standing up, where would his arm rest? I would imagine somewhere down to his knee. To me, the right arm seems lightly shorter, and if he were standing up with his arms at his side, it would be just past where the pockets of trousers would be, which is what the length of an arm should be.

His legs are also quite thin, but then again, he seems thin overall. Is this character supposed to be quite thin and tall? Or did you intent for him to be of an average man? Also, I do like how you have drawn his boots, they look good. My only suggestion here is that you should more form in the left sole of his boot, as it seems that the heel is the lowest part, where the toes are supposed to be at the same level for him to have balance when walking.

His cloths are somewhat thought out, although I feel that it has been lost around his torso, especially  his right rib flank, where his waist seems to have no form, but leads on to his flat butt and right leg, which made me wonder if he is thin. I can see that you have been drawing through your lines, so in this piece, cleaning up the lines does not matter, as it is good to see some muscle drawn through the arm of his shirt.

The hands are nice; you have drawn all the fingers, although, the thumb on the left hand gets a little lost. Next time try and draw the hand over his face and through his hat, so you know where the fingers end up as the fingers look disjointed.

His face is also good, as I can see where he is looking, which is nice to see, rather than him staring ahead like what I have seen with other users’ work. In your work, your characters are always doing something with their eyes. Although, I feel that his hand dose not connect with his face correctly.  I have also noticed that his head, just under his hat and under his ear looks odd, is that supposed to be hair? You should also define the lines of where his hat fits on his head, as it seems that you were at loss of what to do in that area.

I also like how you have sat him in the chair (throne?), as he looks natural sitting.

Okies, you should start critiquing my work now, as payment. :P
